Sit and Read

Lately I have been simply thinking - and reading. Last month I got Procreate Pocket and spent days creating one or two images. I was on it so much that I felt burned out. Not only burned out with creating new images, but also with editing and working on my stories.

My brain is tired.

I've been working on a blog site with my friend that will host some of my short stories featuring Deaf/Hard-of-hearing characters, as well as blog posts about my Deaf life experiences. We are really excited about the blog and I can't wait to share it. I had worked on this website for days on end and felt like nothing was going further - we do want it as perfect as possible but also seemed to stagnate just a little.

My creativity was non-existent.

I love writing. I love playing on Procreate and making images for blog posts and my stories. It's been really fun to figure out what I would like to see.

But sometimes, you need a break.

You need those hours of just sitting and reading a new book - or re-reading a favourite. You need the days of doing a family movie night and shutting off your brain for a little while. You need time away from your mobiles, your computer - except when you have to work.

The past several weeks, I've put my phone aside as soon as work is over, logged off the computer, and played with my two-year old. It didn't matter that I was tired of bubbles and trucks, he was happy to simply show me his work. We had family dinners and movie nights. We've watched a lot of Doctor Who and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.

Time away and a mental break is crucial.

I feel refreshed.

I am ready to dive back into editing Deaf Tales, creating more blog posts, working on the website(s), and creating images. I'm ready to once again immerse myself in writing and all it's glory. (Just in time too, NaNoWriMo is just around the corner.)

But, I've made a goal - I'm still going to stop and be still after work until Mr. Baby is asleep. I'm not going to stress if I don't get on the website, edit that night, or work on Procreate. If I get to it, great. If not, I can do it tomorrow. Not procrastinating now. Just enjoying the moment.

That's my goal. Enjoy every moment.
