Ready for a New Year

I'm not sure about you, but I am here for 2022. While this year has flown by and I am struggling to believe that it already IS the new year, I am ready to look forward. As usual, I am writing down my goals - my aspirations - my resolutions - for this new year. I love doing this, and every year, I have all the intentions to do them... and if I fail, I'll have at least tried. This year is all about GRACE for things that happen and to ACHIEVE a dream.

As usual, my goals will have caveats and additional details. And, for giggles, let's make it alliteration:

  1. Productive

  2. Patient

  3. Present

They may only be 3 goals, but let's break them down.

Productive

This is my biggest goal with the most caveats and additions.

I will be productive this year - through creating, in health, and in my house. What does this mean? Here are my productive goals:

  • Creative

    • Do one of the following for at least 30 minutes on weekdays, 1 hour on weekends:

      • Writing (short stories, blogs, novel chapters)

      • Editing

      • Drawing / Painting

    • Post at least 1 thing (TikTok, blog, Instagram, etc.) at least 3 times a week

      • Schedule 1 weekend a month to mass create for the month

  • Health

    • Exercise for at least 30 minutes on weekdays (I have a new bike! Use it!)

    • Read for 30 minutes a day (I'm adding this to health because for me, reading is relaxing)

  • House

    • Picking up and/or cleaning for at least 30 minutes on weekdays

    • Put things in their place - not just off the floor

In turn, my biggest goal for the productivity is that one of my writings is published this year - or at least in the process. This could be the Deaf Fairy Tales (most likely) to The Lost Daughter (possible) to Magic Trials (least likely). Or the Gift (not finished...).

Patient

This one and the next really go hand-in-hand. What do I mean by patience?

  • I need to have patience with my toddler. To be less touched out, to want to listen to his songs 10,000 times a day, to play with him when I want to be reading or writing or just being alone. To take to heart his "I love you, Mummy."

  • I need to have patience with my baby. To be less annoyed when she cries 50 times a day or when she just wants to be held. To enjoy the cuddles.

  • I need to have patience with my husband. To believe him when he says "I'll get that later" or "I'll do it tomorrow." To know that he's not ignoring me on purpose.

  • I need to have more patience when helping my husband and children practice ASL and not get frustrated when they do.

  • I need to have patience with hearing people who don't understand that I am Deaf - even though I can speak.

  • I need to have patience and belief that I will get published.

This really isn't a "goal" per se, but rather a reminder of GRACE and patience.

Present

This may not seem like much, but it will be hard for me - I need to be present. This means, that until my children are asleep, unless it's "my" time, my phone, book - whatever is distracting me - is put away and I am focused on my family. Family is so important to me but all too often, I choose escape. I escape into a good book or into social media. So, at least during weekdays, I need to be engaged and present with my family - until it is time for me to work on the other goals (once the kids are in bed).

Other Goals

I do have some other creative goals:

  • Read 60 books

This is actually less than last year because this year, I want to focus more on my writing. Additionally, I plan on reading the books within my house (I have over 80 in my physical TBR pile) - and I have to get through at least 10 before I can purchase more (book club is exempt from that). Every one that I buy, I have to get through 10 more of what I already own.

But not only to read, but to read with a focus on the types of books read. So, this year, I'll at least be doing these 22 "challenge" reads.

  • Publish

I'm leaving that open-ended because while it would be easy to publish the Deaf Fairy Tales first, I really do want to publish TLD first... but this year, before I'm 35, I want to be published.

  • Signing

I've gotten lazy with signing with my family - yes, they do sign, but it's become easier to just have me read their lips. My brain hurts though, so this one is purely selfish for me. I want them to sign with me everyday.

Okay, I think I have lots of goals and a motivation to meet some - if not all - of them. What about you? What are your goals?

Keep writing!

May your year be filled with lots of adventures that take you everywhere - even if it's only through stories you read.

Keep your mind open to all the possibilities.
