My sister-in-law gave me a book with 400 Writing prompts for Christmas. I had a different version given to me a couple of years ago and wrote several very short stories through those prompts. If you’re interested, you can find them HERE. I hadn’t finished that book of prompts, but figured, I could look through the new book and possibly use some of these ones to start prompted writing.
The biggest difference is that these prompts are more of a blog type prompt than story writing. “Write your top 10 things on your bucket list.” or “Write ten original sayings that will be made into fortune cookies.” or even “Do you think the eyes are a window to a person’s soul? What does eye contact mean to you?”
These are made to be quick writing sessions, simply ones to help one write every day and get into the habit rather than having one think about writing a story or creating one from a prompt. And that’s okay. Not every prompt will turn into a story. It’s just an exercise for the mind.
So, thank you, sister. I’ll be using this book to help exercise my writing capabilities. I can’t wait to see how it will grow and change. But, I probably won’t put them under the prompts. They’ll be blogs. Starting with the eyes and windows to the soul. And it’s going to be a doozy.
Keep writing!
