It may have seem like I disappeared, but I promise I didn’t. But this year, between adding additional chapters to The Lost Daughter, working on writing more, and being a mum (the newness is still there, even though he's one now), it was crazy busy and like, as it often happens when it gets crazy busy, things fall down.
Goals Weren’t Met
Granted, I have been very busy with work. Not an excuse, but it feels like it took over my life. Our busy season is in late summer, early fall - when schools go back to work and new fiscal years begin. When work was done, all I wanted to do was chill and hang out with my husband and son and dogs.
Writing Fell By the Wayside
Because my brain was taken up so much with work and so little left over for anything creative, I didn’t write much this past summer. I barely edited. I did go to my writing group weekly, but we mostly chatted and I enjoyed talking to another person not 2 feet tall. I feel disappointed with myself that the goal I had made – to finish editing The Lost Daughter by March – was not completed. At all. Not even close.
I did get some writing - and editing - done when we took our trip to Washington (more tips and tricks coming soon!), as I had a couple of hours several days to wander around by myself and found the cutest coffee shop.
Going Forward
Now that it is October, I’m going to set another goal. I’m prepping for Nanowrimo and am going to work on something new - or rework parts of Flash of Gold. We'll see.
It’s just a reminder that even if you have a bad month, in which you don’t get anything done, you can always come back and make a new goal. And sometimes, you may feel like a you are in a never-ending cog of a wheel, but it will eventually get better.
So, as always, write on!
