I've been editing! I've been editing! I promise - I'm working on my writing.
I'm actually proud of myself right now. It's been a strange month - as it always is in the new year. To me, the new year seems to always have gloomy days, cold weather that doesn't lead to Christmas, and new goals reminding you of what you need to do when all you want to do is read.
But I've been working! I've been solidly editing Deaf Tales. I've edited 7 - yes, 7, out of the 12 Deaf Tales. Plus, I've edited some other short-story work (they'll be updated with a newer version in the next few days).
On top of editing, I've written a couple of blogs and even, gasp, tried some poetry (I'm horrible at poetry). I've also been working on drawing some characters for the my stories. I've gotten the Princess and the Button - it's not a pea in my story - and Wendy, as well as Ella, completed. I'm working on Ariel and then I'll move on to the next one.
The only thing I haven't worked on is writing the new novel that is rattling around in my head. I'll begin working on that soon. I'm giving myself January to really focus on editing. I'm excited about working on the new story though. Mostly it's because I'm going to try to write it fully on my new Remington Streamliner travel typewriter that I got for Christmas. I will transcribe it over - but I'll do that as I'm editing, which I'm hoping will help with the editing process - to a computer. I'm excited to be able to write "old-school."
As for some of the other goals I want to accomplish this year - I feel that I've done well with the healthier eating and exercising (nearly) everyday. We're also working on going through each room and tossing out things, cleaning, and keeping it straight. So far, my husband and I have done...the basement.
What I need to work on is being more mindful of not being on my phone and be more present. I've removed some social media off my home screen and that's helped; now I just read on my phone. I'll work on that this week.
Above all, I'm feeling like 2021 is off to a great start. Yes, we're still in a pandemic, but there seems to be hope on the horizon in a form of a vaccine. Yes, our country is divided over politics and no, I'm not going to discuss politics on here. Yes, my other work still can stress me out. But, again, I'm feeling like 2021 will be good. Maybe hopeful is my word for the year.
How has your 2021 been so far?
